In June this year Z* presented a one week introductory course on mineral resource estimation to geology honours students at Stellenbosch University. The course is aimed at exposing students to mineral resource estimation and classification as well as introducing them to the importance of correct sampling and data management, geostatistics (including variography and kriging) and what will be expected of them in terms of the requirements of international reporting codes. Students attended lectures in the morning and learned to apply the theory in practical sessions in the afternoons, culminating in a technical report that formed the basis for their mark.
